WELCOME TO INTER-NOISE 2026!
On behalf of the Australian Acoustical Society (AAS) and the International Institute of Noise Control Engineering (I-INCE), we are pleased to invite you to Adelaide, South Australia, for the 55th INTER-NOISE Congress, to be held at the Adelaide Convention Centre from 9–12 August 2026.
The theme for the Congress, “From the outback to the ocean,” reflects the breadth of topics to be covered — from core issues in noise and vibration control to applications and challenges that are characteristic of remote areas. The program will feature oral and poster presentations, keynote and plenary addresses by leading researchers, and provide ample opportunity for thoughtful discussion with peers, catching up with friends and meeting new people.
In addition to the technical sessions, the Congress will include a technology packed exhibition, site visits to regionally relevant facilities, and a range of networking opportunities — including a welcome function, conference dinner, and sessions supporting Women in Acoustics and early-career professionals.
Located just west of Adelaide’s city centre and alongside the Karrawirra Pari (River Torrens), the venue offers a convenient and state-of-the-art setting for our meeting. It is positioned within the city’s Entertainment Precinct — with the Adelaide Oval at its heart — and is within walking distance of the university precinct and a wide range of accommodation options to suit various budgets.
Adelaide’s city centre is laid out in a straightforward grid, making it easy to navigate, with free public transport (including buses and trams) operating within the CBD. As the capital of South Australia, Adelaide sits between the Adelaide Hills and the coastline and is known for its cultural diversity, progressive history, and accessible scale.
The region also offers proximity to internationally recognised food and wine areas and a wide variety of natural landscapes — from arid inland environments to coastal settings. Adelaide is well-connected globally and nationally, with direct flights by 10 international airlines and over 1,100 domestic services each week, providing access to more than 300 destinations worldwide, either directly or with a single stop.
Come and join us Down-under for INTER-NOISE 2026, Adelaide – we look forward to welcoming you!
Darren Jurevicius (Congress President) & Benjamin Halkon (Technical Program Chair)
CONGRESS THEME
Outback to the Ocean - Noise Control in contrasting environments
The technical program not only integrates sessions on the usual topics of INTER-NOISE congresses but also expands to cover specialised areas, including noise control in marine environments and rural and remote areas. Noise that may be barely noticeable in a city environment can become highly disruptive in remote or outback regions, underscoring the importance of different solutions for these unique contexts. Similarly, uncontrolled anthropogenic noise in the oceans and rivers poses a threat to our marine life. We believe it is our collective responsibility to tackle these and other such noise control and related, local and global challenges through meetings like INTER-NOISE 2026 Adelaide.
